W H E R E

Inspired by two vintage English cookery books "You Can't Ration These" and "The Country Life Cookery Book", this retreat will embrace winter in the English countryside, frost kissed mornings and all. This creative slow living retreat in Surrey, England will celebrate all things cozy: tea time, rustic roasts, fires in the hearth, knitting, baking, ales & ciders at the pub, and, of course, the photography of it all. We'll be staying in a stately country home, the Landmark Trust's Goddard House, built in the early 1900's, complete with a wood burning fire place & an old skittle (bowling!) alley. Designed in the traditional Surrey style, it epitomizes the area, and will be the perfect back drop for days spent knitting, photographing, and building relationships both in the kitchen & around the table.

The Slow Living Retreats of 2016 are intended to be just that: retreats. They're opportunities to travel, photograph, relax, connect, and become inspired anew by a unique group of creatives in a special location. For more about the ethos of the retreats, visit our About page.

During this retreat we'll have some special guests. The talented Marte Marie Forsberg will join us for a day of cooking and food photography, and Natasha Seidel will teach us to knit & weave with local, English wool in natural hues. Tea will be plentiful. As will pudding. And the talented chef Aaron Teece (who's cooked for the likes of the Queen & Kate Moss) will be preparing our meals. Evenings will be spent around the table over glasses of wine or ale and mornings will be wiled away creating. One morning we'll brave the chill for a dawn photography walk to capture the mesmerizing winter light before retreating to knit & sip tea; another will be spent with Marie enjoying the winter ritual of mulled wine & mince pie as well as learning about visual story telling and light, and yet another will be spent exploring the cottage dotted countryside and the local area, cameras in hand.

This retreat will combine hands on practicums with shared experiences and discussion, and each guest will have the opportunity for a one-on-one to discuss their creative goals.

Our activities will include...

• A day of visual story telling, baking, and mulling wine with guest teacher Marte Marie Forsberg

• Photography Workshop & Instruction

• Knitting & Weaving Workshop with Natasha Siedel

• Pub Visit

• Down time for journaling, discussion, knitting, and plenty of tea

• Open discussions on visual storytelling and creative process

And much more!
